National Highway and Motorway Police Department
The National Highways & Motorway Police, or the NHMP, is the Pakistani police force that is responsible for enforcing traffic laws, safety instructions and road safety, as well as other duties. The motorway police established a motorway network in Pakistan in 1997 following construction and now they also patrol motorways.
National highway and motorway police have advanced technology at their disposal for the enforcement of traffic laws, and recently they have introduced the e-challan system. Highways and motorways in the country are divided into seven zones for law enforcement purposes.
Each zone is headed by a DIG and supervised by three Addl. IGPs. Zones are divided into various “sectors” and supervised by the SSPs and the SPs. The sectors are further subdivided into “beats”, each of which is led by a DSP.
